A Taste of Taxes in Texas

In June, I had the opportunity to attend a three-day conference hosted by the National Restaurant Association for financial officers and tax executives in San Antonio, Texas. The first day of the conference focused on the restaurant industries trends and showed us how to have constructive engagement through awareness windows to become better leaders. The second day for me was focused all on tax sessions. Much of these were over the new tax reform and the unknowns this will bring for the restaurant industry, such as deductibility of employee meals and qualified improvement property depreciation lives changing to 39 years instead of 15 years. The third and final day discussed legislative issues and how those can affect the restaurant industry, as well as cybersecurity and how you can be less at risk of being affected.

My husband and I took a couple of extra days to tour all of the things San Antonio is famous for as well. We spent majority of our time dining and walking the River Walk (my personal favorite). Also, we visited the Tower of Americas, SeaWorld, the Alamo, Market Square, and lots of great restaurants! Whether you are looking for you next destination or lucky enough to have your conference in San Antonio it is definitely one for the bucket list!

  1. Very interesting since my husband & I are considering moving to Texas where our daughter lives. We LOVE San Antonio too. We’ve been there several times mostly to Sea World and the River Walk. We would be moving to the Round Rock area, however.
