Is QuickBooks Desktop going away?

QuickBooks Desktop 2021 will be discontinued on May 31, 2024.

Newer versions of QuickBooks Desktop are not (yet) impacted by the discontinuation notice.

What does this mean for you if you are currently using QuickBooks Desktop 2021? After May 31st, you will no longer have access to:

  • Desktop Payroll, Payments or Support Services
  • Updates to security patches which help protect your data
  • Online bank feeds

If you are currently using QuickBooks Desktop 2021, please speak with your accounting professional before May 31st, 2024. Intuit recommends that you update your subscription before 5/31/2024. Updating your subscription can involve purchasing a newer version of Desktop, or converting to QuickBooks Online.

Intuit will stop selling new subscriptions of QuickBooks Desktop after July 31st, 2024

Intuit, the company that makes QuickBooks, also announced that they will stop selling all versions of QuickBooks Desktop after July 31, 2024. This applies to NEW subscriptions. Existing QuickBooks Desktop users on 2022 or later versions, can continue to use QuickBooks Desktop after July 31st, 2024.

Intuit is sending a pretty clear message: new customers should use QuickBooks Online. Intuit also provides a conversion path to QuickBooks Online for existing QuickBooks Desktop customers.

Some of the differences between the subscription levels of QuickBooks Online include:

  • The number of Users that will need access to the data

  • Add budgets to reports
  • Track Inventory
  • Track Multiple Locations/Classes
  • Track Projects
