IRS Refund Policy Changes – Effective September 30th, 2025

The IRS is modernizing its refund processes by transitioning away from paper checks and fully embracing secure electronic transactions. These changes will impact how you receive refunds or disbursements.

How Will You Receive Tax Refunds

  • Direct Deposit – The fastest and most secure option – refunds are sent directly to your checking or savings account
  • Prepaid Debit Card – If you do not have a bank account, you may receive your refund via prepaid debit card

How to Prepare for The Change

  • Include a voided check with your tax organizer for the upcoming year to allow for IRS tax refunds to be direct deposited

While this change will be an adjustment for most, these updates bring several important benefits like reducing the risk of fraud, getting refunds faster, and improving efficiency. Our Team at BakerStarrett will do our best to make this change as seamless as possible.
